Event: From Persia to Napa: Wine, Poetry and Culture at the Persian Table

The deliciously exotic culture of Persia is the subject of the recently released From Persia to Napa: Wine at the Persian Table (Mage), which celebrates Persian culture and contains recipes, food and wine pairings, poetry, tidbits of history and a close-up look at Napa’s Darioush winery. Join the authors—Najmieh Batmanglij, Dick Davis and Associate Director of Wine Burke Owens—and vintner/winery owner Darioush Khaledi for a delightful afternoon of discussion and winetasting, featuring Darioush Shiraz and Viognier.

Event: An Evening of Persian Cuisine and Art

The Washington DC Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier and The Textile Museum cordially invite you to an evening of Persian cuisine and art in honor of the publication of From Persia to Napa by Dame Najmieh Batmanglij. This event wil feature a private viewing of Pieces of a Puzzle: Classical Persian Carpet Fragments with Daniel Walker, The Textile Museum Director and Exhibition Curator. A lavish buffet dinner showcasing recipes from Najmieh’s book will be served along with Napa Valley Wine from Darioush Winery. Authentic tar music played by Behfar Bahadoran.

In November 2008, the CIA will stage A Mediterranean Flavor Odyssey: Preserving and Re-Inventing Traditions for Modern Palates . This spectacular, multi-dimensional event will bring together a conference faculty of more than 60 top chefs, market cooks, food writers, beverage experts, food producers, and other authorities from throughout the Mediterranean and across the United States. This prestigious guest conference faculty will lead seminars, conduct tastings and demonstrations, collaborate on special meals, and participate in the colorful World Marketplace held in Greystone’s historic 15,000 square-foot Barrel Room.
